Japanese Stock Screening Notes for Global Investors
I share how I screen Japanese stocks using Pine Screener, then verify each candidate with official disclosures, earnings reports, and IR materials. This is a practical research workflow — not a buy signal.
What this page is about
Japanese equities are often difficult to research from outside Japan because many primary sources are written in Japanese. This page explains how I find potential candidates, check the original information, and separate what is confirmed from what is still only a hypothesis.
Screen first
I use Pine Screener to narrow down Japanese stocks based on trend structure, pullback patterns, and volume changes.
Verify with official sources
After screening, I check TDnet, earnings reports, securities reports, and company IR materials before writing a note.
Separate Fact / Inference / Unknown
I do not treat AI output or market rumors as conclusions. I separate confirmed facts, interpretation, and remaining unknowns.
My basic screening workflow
The goal is not to chase stocks after a big move. I look for candidates where the long-term structure is still positive, but the short-term chart is in a pullback or early recovery phase.
Monthly trend
I first check whether the long-term trend is still intact. A positive monthly structure helps avoid weak, broken charts.
Weekly pullback
I then look for weekly pullback or consolidation patterns. The ideal setup is not overextended.
Daily recovery
Finally, I watch whether the daily chart begins to recover with volume. This does not mean buying immediately.
Fact / Inference / Unknown
This is the core rule of my research notes. I try not to mix confirmed information with personal interpretation.
Fact
Information confirmed from official sources such as TDnet, earnings releases, securities reports, company IR materials, and market data.
Inference
My interpretation based on facts. This may include possible catalysts, market recognition, supply-demand conditions, or why the market may not fully notice the stock yet.
Unknown
Items that still need verification. If the data is unclear, outdated, missing, or contradictory, I mark it as unknown.
Sample research note format
Below is the type of structure I use when writing about a Japanese stock found by screening. The example is a workflow template, not a recommendation.
Japan Stock Screening Example: Ise Chemicals Corporation (4107)
Why it appeared on my watchlist
- Monthly trend structure remains important to check.
- Weekly pullback after a strong move may create a research opportunity.
- Volume behavior after a catalyst should be monitored.
- The stock should be verified with official disclosures before any conclusion.
Fact
I only write confirmed facts after checking company disclosures, earnings reports, and official IR materials. Market rumors or social media posts are not treated as facts.
Inference
If the official information suggests a possible catalyst, I consider whether the market has already priced it in, whether the story is still under-recognized, and whether the chart supports continued monitoring.
Unknown
If the timing of earnings contribution, capital burden, profitability, or market impact is unclear, I mark those points as unknown instead of making a strong conclusion.
Current stance
This is a watchlist note. I am watching the structure, not giving a buy signal. Any investment decision requires independent verification and risk management.
Why Japanese stocks may be interesting
My focus is not simply “cheap stocks.” I look for a combination of valuation, change, supply-demand, exit scenario, macro theme, and under-recognition.
Screening themes I watch
Value with change, low recognition, improving earnings, shareholder return changes, infrastructure themes, defense, energy, semiconductors, regional banks, and special situations.
What I avoid
I avoid treating a single headline as a conclusion. I also avoid chasing extended charts without a clear exit plan, volume support, or verified primary information.

These guides are written in English and cover the two halves of the workflow: finding candidates with a screener, and verifying them with Japanese primary sources.
