Prompt Templates for Pine Screener
How I Use ChatGPT to Review Japanese Stock Candidates
Note: Pine Screener requires a paid TradingView plan.
When a Japanese stock appears in Pine Screener, I do not treat it as an immediate buy signal. I first check earnings releases, explanatory materials, TDnet disclosures, and official IR materials. This article shares prompt templates for organizing that review process with generative AI.
The goal is to use AI to organize business performance, strengths, risks, and unknowns before making your own judgment.

Conclusion
After finding a candidate with Pine Screener, the important step is not to buy immediately. The first step is to check whether earnings are actually changing, then separate positive points, concerns, and unresolved questions.
Find candidates
Use TradingView or Pine Screener to narrow down the stocks worth reviewing.
Check primary sources
Review TDnet, earnings releases, presentation materials, and official IR pages.
Organize with AI
Separate facts, inferences, and unknowns to reduce blind spots before making a decision.
A better question is: “What is fact, what is inference, and what is still unknown?”
Important: Pine Screener Requires a Paid TradingView Plan
TradingView can be used from a free plan for chart checks and standard screeners. Pine Screener, however, is a feature for scanning watchlists with Pine Script conditions, and it requires a paid plan.
Why Earnings Review Matters After Pine Screener
A stock appearing in Pine Screener is only a candidate. A good-looking chart can still be risky if the underlying earnings trend is weak.
In the past, I sometimes looked for reasons after the stock had already moved. That can lead to buying after the market has already priced in much of the story.
Volume increased.
The chart looked good.
Even then, buying without checking earnings can be dangerous.
That is why I check earnings releases, explanatory materials, TDnet disclosures, and official IR materials after finding a candidate. Generative AI is useful as an organizer of that review.
Using Three AI Tools Can Help, But One Is Enough
If you can use ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, comparing their answers can be useful. But you do not need all three from the beginning.
ChatGPT
Useful for organizing earnings figures, comparison tables, and Fact / Inference / Unknown breakdowns.
Gemini
Useful for surrounding business context, market themes, competitors, and external environment checks.
Claude
Useful for reading long earnings materials, presentation decks, risks, and counterarguments.
It is the quality of the question and the discipline to verify the answer with primary sources.
Try the Same Workflow on TradingView Pine Screener requires a paid plan.
This article assumes a workflow where you find candidates on TradingView, then review earnings materials and organize the information with AI. You can start by using the free plan to check Japanese stock charts and standard screeners.
This section may contain advertising or affiliate links. Investment decisions should be made at your own responsibility after checking primary sources.
The Common Prompt I Use First
For almost any stock, starting with this instruction makes the review easier to organize.
I am going to analyze the earnings of a Japanese listed company.
I do not want you to make the investment decision for me.
Please act as an information organizer and counterargument assistant.
Based on the materials below, separate your answer into:
[Fact]
[Inference]
[Unknown]
Please focus especially on the following items:
1. Change in revenue
2. Change in operating profit
3. Change in profit margin
4. Progress against full-year guidance
5. Whether the improvement looks temporary or sustainable
6. Reasons for growth
7. Risks
8. Things that are still unconfirmed
9. Additional materials I should check
Important rules:
- Do not recommend buying or selling.
- If something cannot be confirmed, mark it as “Unknown.”
- Do not build a strong conclusion on unknown information.
- At the end, list the primary sources I should verify.Prompt 1: Reading a Kessan Tanshin Earnings Release
I usually begin with the kessan tanshin earnings release. This helps organize revenue, operating profit, progress rate, and full-year guidance.
Please review the following kessan tanshin earnings release and organize the change in business performance.
Please check the following items:
1. Year-on-year change in revenue
2. Year-on-year change in operating profit
3. Year-on-year change in ordinary profit
4. Year-on-year change in net income attributable to owners of parent
5. Change in operating margin
6. Progress rate against full-year guidance
7. Whether company guidance was revised
8. Any change in dividend policy
9. Reasons why earnings improved
10. Risks or concerns
Please use the following format:
[Fact]
Numbers and statements that can be confirmed from the earnings release
[Inference]
Hypotheses that can be inferred from the numbers
[Unknown]
Items that cannot be judged from this material alone
[Next materials to check]
Presentation materials, official IR, TDnet disclosures, annual securities reports, etc.Prompt 2: Reading Earnings Presentation Materials
After checking the numbers in the earnings release, I use the presentation materials to understand the business context. I look for what the company emphasizes and whether the trend may continue.
Please read the following earnings presentation materials and summarize the points the company is emphasizing.
Please check the following items:
1. Growth drivers emphasized by the company
2. Reasons revenue increased
3. Reasons operating profit increased
4. Reasons margin improved
5. Segment-level strengths and weaknesses
6. Factors that may continue into future periods
7. Factors that may be temporary
8. Changes in capital investment, staffing, or R&D
9. Relationship with the medium-term management plan
10. Risks that should be read carefully
Please output in this format:
[Positive points]
[Concerns]
[Possibly temporary factors]
[Potentially sustainable factors]
[Additional items to confirm]
[How I would monitor this stock]Prompt 3: Separating Fact, Inference, and Unknown
This is the core format of this site. I do not treat AI output as a conclusion. I separate facts, inferences, and unknowns.
Please organize the change in earnings for this stock into:
[Fact]
[Inference]
[Unknown]
Rules:
[Fact]
Only include information that can be confirmed from the kessan tanshin, earnings presentation, TDnet, or official IR materials.
[Inference]
Write hypotheses that can be inferred from the facts.
Do not state them as certainty.
[Unknown]
Write what cannot be confirmed from the materials alone.
Do not use unknown information as the basis for a strong conclusion.
At the end, add a separate section:
[Information that should not be used for a buy decision at this stage]Leave unknowns as unknowns.
Do not turn unknowns into a reason to buy.
That alone can reduce many errors caused by overconfidence.
Prompt 4: Checking Quarterly Changes
Annual numbers alone can hide early changes. Quarterly trends can show whether momentum is emerging or fading.
Please organize this company’s quarterly performance changes.
Please check the following items:
1. Revenue by quarter
2. Operating profit by quarter
3. Operating margin by quarter
4. Year-on-year comparison
5. Quarter-on-quarter comparison
6. Whether profit growth is continuing
7. Whether margins are improving
8. Whether there are temporary declines or one-off demand factors
Please organize the numbers in table format.
Then separate the following:
[Areas showing momentum]
[Possible signs of slowdown]
[Possible one-off factors]
[Items to check in the next earnings release]Prompt 5: Checking Progress Against Full-Year Guidance
Even if a result looks strong, progress against full-year guidance may be weak. Conversely, very high progress may create expectations for an upward revision.
Based on the earnings release, please check the progress rate against full-year guidance.
Please check the following items:
1. Revenue progress rate
2. Operating profit progress rate
3. Ordinary profit progress rate
4. Net income progress rate
5. Whether progress is better than the same period last year
6. Whether seasonality may affect interpretation
7. Whether expectations for an upward revision may be excessive
8. Whether company guidance appears conservative or aggressive
Please output in this format:
[Strong progress points]
[Weak progress points]
[Items difficult to judge because of seasonality]
[Things to confirm before expecting an upward revision]
[Points to check in the next earnings release]Prompt 6: Separating Positive Catalysts and Risks
If I only look at positive materials, I naturally want to buy. That is why I ask AI to list risks at the same time.
Please separate the possible positive catalysts and risks for this stock.
Do not recommend buying or selling.
Please use the following format:
[Potential positive catalysts]
- Items confirmed in earnings materials
- Earnings changes
- Market themes
- Changes in supply/demand or trading volume
[Risks]
- Possibility of temporary demand
- Possibility of margin deterioration
- Changes in orders or inventory
- Impact from foreign exchange, raw materials, or labor costs
- Possibility that the stock price has already risen too much
[Unconfirmed items]
- Things not written in the materials
- Additional primary sources to check
[Conditions under which I would avoid buying]
- Situations where it would be better to move the stock to a watchlist insteadPrompt 7: Asking Multiple AI Tools the Same Question
If you can use several AI tools, asking the same question and comparing the differences can be helpful. The goal is not to pick the “correct” AI, but to find points that need verification.
Please analyze the following earnings materials.
Please follow these rules:
1. Separate facts, inferences, and unknowns
2. Include both positive points and risks
3. Do not recommend buying or selling
4. At the end, list additional primary sources to check
5. If something cannot be confirmed, write it as unknown
Please use this format:
[Fact]
[Inference]
[Unknown]
[Positive points]
[Concerns]
[Easy-to-miss risks]
[Materials to check next]
[Things I should verify myself before making a final decision]I use the differences as a signal to check TDnet, earnings releases, or official IR materials myself.
Prompt 8: Organizing Buy, Avoid, or Watchlist Conditions
In the final stage, I do not let AI decide. I use AI to organize the materials needed for my own decision.
Please organize the materials for deciding whether to buy, avoid, or keep this stock on a watchlist.
The final decision will be made by me.
Please only organize the decision materials.
Please use this format:
[Conditions under which buying could be considered]
- What conditions would need to be met?
[Conditions for avoiding]
- What conditions would make buying unattractive?
[Conditions for keeping it on a watchlist]
- If I do not buy now, what should I monitor?
[Numbers to check next]
- Revenue
- Operating profit
- Margin
- Progress rate
- Orders
- Inventory
- Dividends
- Equity ratio
[Chart points to check next]
- 25-day moving average
- 75-day moving average
- Volume
- Whether the stock is already extended
[Unknowns]
- Items that should not yet be used as decision materialsPrompt 9: Thinking in Three Position Sizes
Even when I consider buying, I do not want to think only in all-or-nothing terms. This template is for organizing position sizing rules. It is not investment advice.
Please organize this stock using a three-step position sizing framework: trial position, main position, and reserve cash.
Do not recommend buying or selling.
Do not state a specific buy price as a conclusion.
Organize only the decision framework.
Assumptions:
- Trial position: 20%
- Main position: 50%
- Reserve cash: 30%
- Reserve cash is not money for automatic averaging down
- If the original scenario breaks, the reserve should remain unused
Please use this format:
[Conditions for considering a trial position]
[Conditions for considering a main position]
[Conditions under which reserve cash can be used]
[Conditions under which reserve cash should not be used and the idea should be abandoned]
[Conditions for avoiding the trade]
[Primary sources I should check myself]
[Important cautions]It is only used when the stock holds the expected pullback area and shows signs of reversal.
If the scenario breaks, the reserve should remain unused.
Do Not Turn AI Output Directly Into an Article
AI output is useful, but if copied directly, it becomes a generic explanation. What matters in a research log is what I checked after reading the AI answer.
| AI output | What I verify myself |
|---|---|
| Revenue is growing | Which segment grew, and is the growth likely to continue? |
| Operating profit increased | Was it driven by revenue growth, price hikes, cost reductions, or one-off factors? |
| Progress rate is high | Is there seasonality, and is company guidance conservative? |
| There is a strong theme | Is that theme actually affecting earnings? |
| Risks appear small | Are there risks not clearly written in the materials? |
AI output is a starting point for checking primary sources yourself.
This is the basic rule of this site.
What I Want to Emphasize
Find candidates
Use TradingView or Pine Screener to reduce the number of stocks to review.
Organize earnings
Use generative AI to organize kessan tanshin, presentation materials, and official IR information.
Decide yourself
Do not accept AI output blindly. Decide whether to buy, avoid, or monitor based on your own review.
Generative AI can make the first stage of earnings review much easier. But I do not outsource the decision to AI.
Organize with AI, verify with primary sources, and make the final judgment yourself. That is the workflow I want to keep.
Disclaimer
